Easter Tiggy and 6 things about me.

First of all, a very merry first day of Spring to all you southern hemisphere people like me, and a happy "Fall" (we say Autumn) to all you Northies.

In my family, we always celebrated a first day of a month by playing Easter Tiggy. OK, so what's Easter got to do with the first of the month? The answer...NOTHING. There's some Dutch translation for it, but of course we could never pronounce it as kids and it came out Easter Tiggy. Even Mum, who came here when she was 3 and can understand Dutch but can't speak it (????) doesn't know what the proper saying is. The idea is to touch someone on the clothes first while saying Easter Tiggy, without getting touched yourself. So it pays to be vigilant to the changing of the calender and get someone when they are unsuspecting. It leads to lots of chasing around the house. And the prize...bragging rights, I guess. How do you mark the changing of the month?

Also Wendy at The Shabby Nest is asking people to list 10 unspectacular things about themselves. Mine are:

1. I can never decide what length hair I should have. At the moment it's growing out of a short hairstyle and I'm trying to grow it long again.

2. When I eat out, I usually order the chicken.

3. My favourite flavour of chips (I think that's crisps to you Americans) is the blends of flavours...honey soy and chicken, sour cream and chives etc.

4. I prefer the mountains to the beach.

5. I went barefoot to my wedding.

6. I hate to exercise, but playing games is fun.
And I think a blog is boring without a picture, but I couldn't find one of "Spring" so here's one of Ella when we went bushwalking. (It ties in to the prefering the mountains, doesn't it?)

Oops, I meant to choose the photo without her eating, but I guess it's a pretty classic Ella pose(although usually she would be either eating with her mouth open or getting it all over herself...she loves her food, that one).

Comments make me happy. Spread the love.

Get to know me

  • I love the smell of cinnamon and vanilla.
  • My favourite flowers are daisies.
  • My favourite trees are pine trees.
  • I always like to have the bickie jar full and a cake on the cake stand. I know...not that healthy, but so good to look at.
  • Autumn is my favourite month, although I do wish we had more of a change of colours up here in Queensland.
  • I love Anne of Green Gables and Laura Ingalls Wilder. They started my love affair with "old-fashioned" stuff.
  • I'm a boots and jeans kind of girl, but also love vintage skirts and dresses.
  • I like sewing and am in love with quilts at the moment.
  • I love reading. (I have a weakness for archeological thrillers and historical romances, but not Mills and Boon-type ones.)
  • I love old houses with character. No new estate houses for me. (Sorry Rosie.)
  • I love vintage/cottage/farmhouse decorating and pretty pinks and blues, with a splash of red for colour.
  • Polka dots can make me sigh with delight.
  • I have 4 chooks. They are MY pets. Another tick on my dream-come-true chart.
  • I don't eat dessert much any more. I'm not dieting, I just don't want it. (Does that mean I'm growing up if I say no to an icecream cone?)
  • I'll still always say yes to chocolate though!
  • I like to sit on the front stairs in the sun, to drink my morning cup of tea, while I contemplate what to do in the garden.
  • I've got the gardening bug again recently. It comes and goes with the weather. I'm envisioning cottage flowers in pink, blue and white to go with my green picket fence.
